Disc Golf in North Georgia

Although disc golf has been around for a while there are many people that have not heard of it. Disc golf is played much like regular golf except you don’t use clubs, you throw a flying disc. The discs are similar to a Frisbee but one can see the differences upon inspection and would rarely use them to play catch. The object is to throw the disc toward an above ground target. The target is usually a metal basket with chains hanging above it. You choose different flying discs for different “shots” the same as you would choose different clubs in golf. Generally you start off with your driver, switch to the approach disc and then use the putter.

As the game becomes more popular you are sure to hear more people talking about it. Expect to see a few courses pop up in the near future in areas of North Georgia like Blue Ridge. There is already a course in Toccoa and there is even a Professional Disc Golf Association (PDGA).

If you have played disc golf then leave a comment and let us know what you think of the game, where you have played, and where you would like to see a disc golf course in North Georgia.
