7th Annual Helen Lewis Lecture

Every year since 2005 the Craddock Center has presented a lecture to honor Dr. Helen Lewis. Each lecture features some aspect of Appalachian life. This year’s presenter will be folk artist, songwriter, and children’s book author, John McCutcheon.

The lecture will take place on February 18, 2011 at 7 PM at the Bonnie Higdon Reaves Auditorium on the Epworth campus of Reinhardt College. Contact the Craddock Center 706-632-1772 for more information and details about this event.

Caught in the Net

Caught in the Net is the newest play in production at the Blue Ridge Community Theater. This play will be shown Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays, February 11 through March 6, 2011.

Caught in the Net is a follow up to Ray Cooney’s smash hit Run for your Wife. Even if you haven’t seen Run for your Wife, you will be able to follow what is happening in this latest production. Two high schoolers meet on the internet and realize they want more than the online flirtations and intend to meet. What they don’t realize is their father has been maintaining two families in two different towns and he is one and the same person. This show is rated PG-13 for language and mature subject matter.

Tall Tales, True Stories, and Downright Lies

Enjoy an evening of storytelling at the Blue Ridge Community Theatre in Blue Ridge, Georgia on January 15, 2011 at 7:30 PM. Tall Tales, True Stories, and Downright Lies will be performed by the Blue Ridge Mountain Storytellers. Many individuals will tell stories and folk tales sure to entertain everyone followed by a quartet playing western songs that will involve the participation of the audience.

Songs and Stories-Appalachian Style

Bob and Melody Thomason will be performing Songs and Stories-Appalachian Style at the Performing Arts Center in Blue Ridge, Georgia on January 29, 2011 at 7:30 PM.

The Thomasons travel all around the Southeast performing their songs and stories about the Appalachian mountains and have been doing so for almost 30 years. Bob is an accomplished musician, storyteller, and lecturer and plays many instruments including the mountain dulcimer, banjo, and guitar with Melody adding her voice to the music. In addition to playing the dulcimer, Bob also builds them. He holds building workshops from Florida to Maine.

This show is being presented by the Craddock Center and the event is free of charge, however, free will offerings are always welcome to help cover the production costs of the event. For more information and details, contact the Craddock Center at 706-632-1772.

Continental Pheasant Hunt

Enjoy hunting? You can have a great day of hunting at Noontootla Creek Farms on January 22, 2011 at the Continental Pheasant Hunt. Art Exhibit at Blue Ridge Mountain Arts

Visit Blue Ridge Mountain Arts on January 8, 2011 for an opening reception for talented photographer, Lisa Schnelinger and the first quarter artists-in-residence Don and Suzie Maier. The art exhibits feature Lisa Schnelinger’s Photographic Journey in Afghanistan and paintings by award winning artists, Don and Suzie Maier.

The reception is from 5 PM to 7 PM. It is free and open to the public. The Photographic Journey in Afghanistan will be on display during normal gallery hours from January 9, 2011 through February 18, 2011.
