2011 Ride the Rails Festival

Railroad CrossingIf you are a train buff, you won’t want to miss the Ride the Rails Festival at the historic train depot in Mineral Bluff, Georgia on September 17 and 18, 2011. There will be plenty of fun to go around. Hourly scenic trips will be made by railroad motor car over the Iron Bridge across the Toccoa River to the Murphy Junction in Georgia then return to the Mineral Bluff Depot or take a Hand Pump car ride. You can see the HO scale model railroad that the Tri State Model Railroaders have in progress inside the depot. This model railroad is based on the old L & N Railroad that ran from Atlanta, Georgia to Etowah, Tennessee with a branch line from Mineral Bluff, Georgia to Murphy, North Carolina. There will be crafts and tasty eats for sale and entertainment by State Line Band. A children’s area will be set up with Trains for Kids.

The 5 mile round trip by railroad motor car will be running hourly from 10 AM to 3 PM on Saturday, September 17, and 10 AM to 2 PM on Sunday, September 18. Tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for children 2 – 12. The Hand Pump Car ride is $1 per person round trip. Donations are always welcome. All proceeds will go to benefit the Tri-State Model Railroaders and the Mineral Bluff Depot. For more information, call 706-455-1263.
