History has it that some of the last members of the Cherokee Nation remained in the mountin areas of Fannin until the “Trail of Tears” march to Oklahoma in 1838.

The cities of Blue Ridge, Morganton and McCaysville are all part of Fannin County. The county covers more than 385 square miles and has a population of more than 21,000.

The commisioner’s meeting is on the second and fourth Tuesday each month at 6:00 pm. The meeting is held in the 3rd floor jury assembly room in the courthouse.
