Children’s Bakery Tour and Class

Mercier Orchards in Blue Ridge, Georgia is offering a bakery tour and baking class for children on February 11, 2012 from 4 PM to 6 PM. First the kids will tour the bakery and then it’s off to make sugar cookies. Not only will they be learning how to bake with the bakery professionals but they will also be able to enjoy the fruits (or should I say cookies) of their labors.

Toasting the Arts

The Blue Ridge Mountain Arts Association in Blue Ridge, Georgia is “Toasting the Arts” with a wine and cheese tasting on February 11, 2012. Bring your valentine and enjoy an evening of wine and cheese from all around the region. Listen to some music and delight in some of the art on display by artists Tom Chambers and Paul Fontana.

The evening will begin at 7 PM. Tickets are on sale now and are $25 for Art Center members and $35 for non-members. This is the first fundraiser of the year. Light up Blue Ridge 2011

Kick off the Christmas season with some great festivities in downtown Blue Ridge, Georgia on November 26, 2011. Santa and Mrs. Claus are due to arrive on the Christmas Express at 11:15 AM where they will be available for photos. There will be reindeer and fun for the kids with a trackless train ride, a balloon lady, a clown and magician and much more. A Tuba Christmas will begin the musical entertainment of the day at 12 Noon. Bands will be playing throughout the day for your enjoyment. A parade will begin at 5:30 PM and the annual lighting of the Christmas tree will happen at 6 PM. Stores in downtown Blue Ridge will be open late so you may be able to get some shopping done while in town.

All proceeds for this event will go to benefit Open Arms of Blue Ridge, a non profit organization dedicated to helping abused and neglected children.

The Christmas Express

Bring the kids to the Blue Ridge Scenic Railway in Blue Ridge, Georgia to ride the Christmas Express. Listen to a Christmas story, sing Christmas carols and visit with Santa and his elves as you enjoy the train ride through the scenic Blue Ridge area. The Christmas Express train will be running November 25, 2011 through December 24, 2011. This is a one hour trip with no layover. There is also an evening excursion with a 2 hour layover in McCaysville. Check with Blue Ridge Scenic Railway 706-632-TRAIN (8724) for dates and times.

Tickets are $34 for adults 13 and older, $18 for children ages 2 – 12. Reservations are highly recommended.

It’s a Wonderful Life

You won’t want to miss Blue Ridge Community Theater’s version of “It’s a Wonderful Life” on stage November 25 through December 18, 2011 in Blue Ridge, Georgia. This Christmas classic is a heartwarming story of George Bailey, a man who dreams of traveling the world. His dreams are never realized as there is always someone or something he has to take care of. Events happen which leave George very frustrated, leading him to attempt suicide. An angel steps in to show George what life would be like without him in it.

Showtimes are 7:30 PM to 9:30 PM starting on Friday, November 25, 2011 and running Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays through December 18, 2011. 2011 Blue Ridge Turkey Trot

Start your Thanksgiving Day out right with the 2011 Blue Ridge Turkey Trot happening at the downtown Blue Ridge City Park on Main Street in Blue Ridge, Georgia on November 24, 2011. Runners and walkers of all ages and abilities are invited to participate in this fun 5K run/walk. Awards will be given to the top three male and female.

Check in and on site registration will begin at 7 AM on November 24, 2011 and the race will begin at 8 AM. The registration fee is $17.00. Proceeds will go to local Blue Ridge charities. All participants are asked to please donate a non-perishable food item on the morning of the event. All the food donated will be given to the local food bank. We are often asked “what should we do when we visit Blue Ridge”? There are so many things to do but the one experience that we think so many people would enjoy and that can bring some lasting memories is horseback riding in the Blue Ridge Mountains. Haunted House in Blue Ridge

Come to the Blue Ridge Community Theater in Blue Ridge, Georgia on October 28 – 31, 2011 for some scary fun! The theater will be transformed into a haunted house for the next few days with some of your favorite movie monsters!
