Oh what a night! On September 4, 2010 from 6:30 PM to 9:30 PM, you can place your bets and your bids at the 3rd annual Casino Night and Silent Auction being held at Aska Farms in Blue Ridge, Georgia. This fundraiser is going to be a lot of fun and it all goes to help Open Arms of Blue Ridge. Tickets for this event can be purchased at United Community Bank. Tickets purchased in advance (before September 1) are $25 per person. They will be $30 per person after September 1 and at the door. For more information contact 706-632-3043.

Open Arms of Blue Ridge is an emergency assessment shelter that was started as a safe haven for children. It is a temporary home for children to feel safe when they have been taken out of an environment of abuse and drug use.

I Hate Hamlet

The Blue Ridge Community Theater is dedicated to bringing quality theater to Blue Ridge, Georgia. The play that is being performed through September 5, 2010 is the wonderfully funny I Hate Hamlet by Paul Rudnick.

The story is about a man who seemingly has it all – fame, a beautiful girlfriend, a great apartment in New York, a dedicated agent, and a part playing Hamlet in Central Park. The only problem is, in reality, his life is not as good as it appears. He is visited by a couple of ghosts and his life is no longer his own. The laughs go on and on as he deals with the situations in his life.

Show times are 7:30 PM on Friday and Saturday, 2 PM matinee on Sunday. Tickets are $15 per seat for adults. 10% off tickets prices for seniors, half off tickets for students (subject to availability) all day Sunday and 30 minutes before showtimes on Friday and Saturday. Tractor Rides at Mercier Orchards

Every Saturday and Sunday in August, 2010 starting at 10 AM and running every half hour until 5 PM is a tractor that will take you on a fun ride through Mercier Orchards. Reservations are recommended as the tractor fills up fast. Enjoy all of the fruit laden trees as you travel through the vast orchard. Rides are just $2 per person, children 6 and under are free.

Make sure to stop in at the store and get some fresh fruit or maybe a fried pie. Right now you can choose from Carolina Bell, Crest Haven, and Stellar peaches, Yellow nectarines, Detroit Red, Ginger Gold and Zestar apples, and Yellow plums.

Sprint Triathlon in Blue Ridge

Tri the Mountains Sprint Triathlon will take place on July 25, 2010 in Blue Ridge, GA. The event will begin at 7 AM with a 600 yard swim in the beautiful Lake Blue Ridge. It continues with a wonderfully scenic 18 mile bike ride crossing the lake and back. The last event is a 5K run starting at Blue Ridge Marina, heading towards downtown Blue Ridge via Old Highway 76, circling around the park and ending at the old courthouse which now houses the Blue Ridge Mountain Arts Center. There will be an after party and awards will be given in the park in the center of downtown Blue Ridge. This will be an event to remember!

5th Annual Kiwanis Fair of Blue Ridge

Come on down and have a blast at the 5th Annual Kiwanis Fair of Blue Ridge. The fair will be arriving the week of June 22, 2010 and running through June 26, 2010 at the Kiwanis Fairgrounds in Blue Ridge. There will be many carnival rides, great food, creative displays, clowns and much more!

The fair hours are: Wednesday through Saturday-5 to 11 p.m., Sunday-1 p.m. to 8 p.m. Ticket prices at the door are $18.00. Gate admission is $4.00 and is not included in the ticket prices. You can purchase advance tickets for Family Nights (Wednesday and Thursday) at all the local banks for just $12.00.

The Kiwanis Fairgrounds are located at the corner of Jones and Austin Streets in Blue Ridge, just a couple blocks from downtown.

Twilight Trip on the Blue Ridge Scenic Railway

Take pleasure in an evening trip on the Blue Ridge Scenic Railway on June 12 or June 26, 2010. The Twilight Train leaves the station in Blue Ridge at 4:30 PM, travels along the beautiful Toccoa River and stops with a 2 hour layover in the city of McCaysville, GA/Copperhill, TN. Take advantage of the layover by enjoying a meal at one of the many restaurants, bring a picnic basket and have a nice outdoor meal, or meander through some of the local shops. The train then returns to Blue Ridge at 8:30 PM.

U Pick Cherries at Mercier Orchards

It’s cherry pickin’ time at Mercier Orchards! June 11 – 13, and June 18 – 20, 2010 you can take a pleasurable wagon ride through the orchard and stop to pick your own cherries. What a great way to spend time with the family and have some tasty cherries to take home (if you don’t eat them all before you leave). If you don’t want to do the picking yourself, you can always stop in their market and grab some all ready for you to take home. Hours on Friday are 3 to 6 p.m., Saturday and Sunday from 10 am to 6 pm. Hours are subject to change due to the weather so you may want to call before you make the trip.
