2012 Blue Ridge Turkey Trot

Kick off your Thanksgiving day at the 2012 Blue Ridge Turkey Trot in Blue Ridge, Georgia. The 5K race/walk begins at the downtown Blue Ridge City Park at 8 AM on November 22, 2012.  All members of the family, regardless of age or ability, are welcome to participate. Registration begins at 7 AM. Come on out and enjoy a run/walk and help a good cause. Proceeds will go to help benefit local charities in Blue Ridge. Participants are asked to please bring a non-perishable food item on the morning of the event. All donations will go to Feed Fannin.

Awards will be presented to the top 3 males and females. Registration cost is $17. People who pre-register will receive a commemorative t-shirt. You must register by November 18, 2012 in order to receive your t-shirt by Thanksgiving. For more information, call 727-458-8556.

2012 Blue Ridge Kiwanis Rodeo

Rodeo BullThe 16th annual Blue Ridge Kiwanis Rodeo will be coming to town on August 17 – 18, 2012 at the Kiwanis Fairgrounds in Blue Ridge, Georgia. This year’s event will include Bareback Riding, Bronco Riding, Calf Roping, Team Roping, Steer Wrestling, Barrel Racing,  and Bull Riding. Also included are the famous Steer Dressing contest, Calf Scramble, and, new this year, the Ladies’ Calf Scramble. There will be a Boot Toss drawing that gives 5 registered participants a chance to  win $100 in cash or even a 2012 Dodge Ram 4×4.

Advance tickets are $10 per person and can be purchased at United Community Bank – Blue Ridge, United Community Bank – McCaysville, Community and Southern Bank – Blue Ridge, Parris Pharmacy, Mountain Valley Motors, Kevin Panter Insurance, and Beds Etc. – Ellijay. Tri the Mountains

Register for the Escape to Blue Ridge Tri the Mountains Triathlon taking place on July 22, 2012. This wonderfully scenic race starts out at 7 AM with a 600 yard swim in the beautiful Lake Blue Ridge, then an 18 mile bike course with the North Georgia mountains as your backdrop. Next comes the 3.2 mile run taking you to the quaint little town of Blue Ridge, Georgia. Make sure to head to the downtown City Park after you complete the race for the post race meal and awards that will be presented by Escape to Blue Ridge.

Dixie Dock Dogs are coming to Blue Ridge

The Dixie Dock Dogs hold competitions all over Georgia and they are coming to The Cohutta Country Store in Blue Ridge, Georgia on June 22 – 24, 2012. Go Blue for Kids Golf Tournament

GolferGet your team together and compete in the 1st annual Go Blue for Kids Golf Tournament at the Old Union Golf Club in Blairsville, Georgia on June 25, 2012 starting at 1 PM. This first annual golf tournament will be a competition between Fannin, Gilmer, Union, and Towns counties to see who has the best golf team. Not only will you win bragging rights if you win but just competing in this tournament is going to help kids in need through Open Arms of Blue Ridge. Each county represented will be limited to eight teams (foursomes) per county and will compete for best county team and all 32 teams will compete for best team overall. All winning teams will receive trophies with the best overall receiving a very large trophy.

15th Annual Blue Ridge Mtn. Adventure Race

Adventure RaceJoin in the adventure of the 15th annual Blue Ridge Mountain Adventure Race in Blue Ridge, Georgia on April 14, 2012. There will be 2 different adventure races to choose from. The traditional race, the Elite Race, is a 6 to 10 hour race and the new race, the Sport Race, is a shorter 4 to 6 hour course. Both races challenge teams of 2 or 3 members (plus an additional support member) in running, paddling, mountain biking, and navigating through the beautiful North Georgia mountains. Trophies will be awarded.

The races finish at the downtown Blue Ridge City Park in front of the Art Center. Plan to enjoy the after race party/meal for the teams at the park. You can purchase extra tickets for the party when you register for the race.
