Light up Blue Ridge 2011

Merry ChristmasKick off the Christmas season with some great festivities in downtown Blue Ridge, Georgia on November 26, 2011. Santa and Mrs. Claus are due to arrive on the Christmas Express at 11:15 AM where they will be available for photos. There will be reindeer and fun for the kids with a trackless train ride, a balloon lady, a clown and magician and much more. A Tuba Christmas will begin the musical entertainment of the day at 12 Noon. Bands will be playing throughout the day for your enjoyment. A parade will begin at 5:30 PM and the annual lighting of the Christmas tree will happen at 6 PM. Stores in downtown Blue Ridge will be open late so you may be able to get some shopping done while in town.

All proceeds for this event will go to benefit Open Arms of Blue Ridge, a non profit organization dedicated to helping abused and neglected children.

The Christmas Express

Bring the kids to the Blue Ridge Scenic Railway in Blue Ridge, Georgia to ride the Christmas Express. Listen to a Christmas story, sing Christmas carols and visit with Santa and his elves as you enjoy the train ride through the scenic Blue Ridge area. The Christmas Express train will be running November 25, 2011 through December 24, 2011. This is a one hour trip with no layover. There is also an evening excursion with a 2 hour layover in McCaysville. Check with Blue Ridge Scenic Railway 706-632-TRAIN (8724) for dates and times.

Tickets are $34 for adults 13 and older, $18 for children ages 2 – 12. Reservations are highly recommended.

Haunted House in Blue Ridge

Jack O'LanternCome to the Blue Ridge Community Theater in Blue Ridge, Georgia on October 28 – 31, 2011 for some scary fun! The theater will be transformed into a haunted house for the next few days with some of your favorite movie monsters!

The Haunted House will be open from 7 PM to 10 PM. Tickets for this event are $10 for adults, $5 for children under 12. This may be intense for young children so parental discretion is advised. For more information, call 706-632-9223.

SPOOF Halloween Festival

HalloweenMercier Orchards in Blue Ridge, Georgia is having their annual SPOOF Halloween Carnival/Haunted Tractor Ride on October 21, 22, 28, and 29, 2011. Take a ride on a tractor up to the apple orchard where there will be lots of fun and games. Not only will there be games to play but a spooky house for the kids, a bounce house, and more. For the older kids (and adults too!), take a Haunted Tractor ride through the orchard after dark…if you dare.

The carnival will be open from 4 PM to 9:30 PM. The price is $6 for a bracelet which allows unlimited games or you can purchase tickets separately for 4/$1.

The Haunted Tractor Ride starts when the sun goes down and will run until 9:30 PM. Tickets are $10 for adults, $8 for children 8 to 12. Children 7 and under are not permitted on this ride.

Easter Egg Hunt and Parade

Easter BunnyTreat your children to breakfast at either L & L Beanery or Serenity Gardens Cafe in Blue Ridge, Georgia and get their pictures taken with the Easter Bunny on April 16, 2011 at 9 AM.  Reservations for breakfast are required. Contact L & L Beanery at 706-632-3242 or Serenity Gardens at 706-258-4949 to make your reservations.

After breakfast, bring the kids out to the historic Blue Ridge City Park in the heart of downtown Blue Ridge  for an Easter egg hunt beginning at 11 AM. Over 4000 eggs will be hidden with golden prize eggs among them. The kids must be 12 or younger to participate.

Beginning at 12 Noon is the Easter parade. A prize will go to the Best Float!

Christmas at Blue Ridge Mountain Arts

Stained Glass Mary and JesusChristmas is a busy time at the Blue Ridge Mountain Arts Association. There will be many events taking place at The Art Center for the holidays starting with the 2010 Holiday Show and Sale which opens with a reception on Saturday evening, November 20, 2010. There will be food, fun, entertainment and wonderful artistic creations for sale by over 500 regional artists. You are sure to find something for everyone on your Christmas list as there will be offerings of pottery, woodworks, sculptures, folk art, jewelry, blown and stained glass, paintings, and so much more! The sale will continue through December 22, 2010. All purchases help The Art Center keep their programs going and their artists creating.

The holiday celebrations keep going with the Festival of Trees, going on November 22, 2010 through November 27, 2010. The Festival of Trees is a wonderful exhibit of Christmas trees decorated by local businesses and organizations. There will be a reception and silent auction on November 26, 2010 at 6 PM and all proceeds go to benefit the Craddock Center.

Christmas at The Art Center is an open house being hosted by The Art Center on December 11, 2010 from 10 AM to 6 PM. Come share some warm drinks, fresh baked goods, and fellowship with friends old and new as you enjoy the beauty of the season at The Art Center. A large Christmas tree will be displayed in the Richard Low Evans Courtroom Gallery and everyone is encouraged to bring a wrapped gift for a child in need in the community. The gifts should be artistic in nature to help spark creativity in the child it will be given to (no oil based products please). Please tag your gift for the age it is appropriate for. Even if you can’t make it to the open house, you can still help bring a smile to the face of a child by bringing a gift to put under the tree at The Art Center any time after November 20, 2010.
