5th Annual Kiwanis Fair of Blue Ridge

ClownCome on down and have a blast at the 5th Annual Kiwanis Fair of Blue Ridge. The fair will be arriving the week of June 22, 2010 and running through June 26, 2010 at the Kiwanis Fairgrounds in Blue Ridge. There will be many carnival rides, great food, creative displays, clowns and much more!

The fair hours are: Wednesday through Saturday-5 to 11 p.m., Sunday-1 p.m. to 8 p.m. Ticket prices at the door are $18.00. Gate admission is $4.00 and is not included in the ticket prices. You can purchase advance tickets for Family Nights (Wednesday and Thursday) at all the local banks for just $12.00.

The Kiwanis Fairgrounds are located at the corner of Jones and Austin Streets in Blue Ridge, just a couple blocks from downtown.

Twilight Trip on the Blue Ridge Scenic Railway

Blue Ridge Scenic RailwayTake pleasure in an evening trip on the Blue Ridge Scenic Railway on June 12 or June 26, 2010. The Twilight Train leaves the station in Blue Ridge at 4:30 PM, travels along the beautiful Toccoa River and stops with a 2 hour layover in the city of McCaysville, GA/Copperhill, TN. Take advantage of the layover by enjoying a meal at one of the many restaurants, bring a picnic basket and have a nice outdoor meal, or meander through some of the local shops. The train then returns to Blue Ridge at 8:30 PM.

U Pick Cherries at Mercier Orchards

CherriesIt’s cherry pickin’ time at Mercier Orchards!  June 11 – 13, and June 18 – 20, 2010 you can take a pleasurable wagon ride through the orchard and stop to pick your own cherries. What a great way to spend time with the family and have some tasty cherries to take home (if you don’t eat them all before you leave). If you don’t want to do the picking yourself, you can always stop in their market and grab some all ready for you to take home. Hours on Friday are 3 to 6 p.m., Saturday and Sunday from 10 am to 6 pm. Hours are subject to change due to the weather so you may want to call before you make the trip.

Indiegrrl Festival at Jonica Gap Campground

GuitarsCome out  to the Indiegrrl Spring Music Festival at Jonica Gap Campground on June 11 – 13, 2010 for a weekend of camping, live music, and fun. Indiegrrl is a non profit organization that showcases and benefits women in the arts. Several live bands will be playing throughout the weekend as well as other stage performances including comedy, spoken word and more.  Local artisans and crafters will have works on display for sale.

34th Annual Arts in the Park Festival

artist paletteVisit the Blue Ridge City Park in Historic Downtown Blue Ridge across from the depot on Sunday, May 30th from 10AM to 5PM for the 34th Annual Arts in the Park Festival. There will be more than 150 booths displaying magnificent arts and crafts from many very gifted artists. There will be artist demonstrations, food, music, and dance. It is said to have some of the finest arts and crafts in the Southeast.  Admission is $3.00, under 12 is free. Make sure you add it to your list of plans this Memorial Day weekend!

The Southern Appalachian Artist Guild will have an art exhibit on display featuring arts of the region during the Arts in the Park festival and will remain on display through June 18th at 420 West Main Street, Blue Ridge, GA 30513.

Inspirational speaker Judy Jacobs will be speaking at the World Harvest Church North on Sunday, June 6 at 10:30 AM.

Judy Jacobs is a Minister of the Gospel who uniquely shares God’s word through song and ministry. She established His Song Ministries in 1989 and has produced many music albums as well as preaching and teaching CDs, DVDs, and tapes.

Relay For Life in Fannin County

Only 35 days left for Relay For Life of Fannin County Georgia. You can still sign up or donate. The relay is held at the Fannin County High School Stadium on June 11th 2010. The American Cancer Society has set up a great resource so you can track the top teams and participants. Check out the Relay For Life events site.

Currently the Georgia Cancer Specialists Team is ahead and Melissa Patton is the top participant. You can start or join a team or you can donate to a participant or team.
