Blue Ridge Mountain Marching Festival

If you enjoy watching marching bands, you are in for a treat if you come to the Blue Ridge Mountain Marching Festival in Blue Ridge, Georgia on October 13, 2012. Bands from 22 different high schools will be participating with bands ranging from 43 to 151 members. The festival will take place at the Fannin County High School with the first performance at 1 PM. Bands will be marching throughout the day ending at 9:30 PM.

Blue Ridge Blues and BBQ

Come on out to the downtown Blue Ridge City Park in Blue Ridge, Georgia on September 22, 2012 from 12 Noon to 9 PM to enjoy some blues music and some tasty barbecue! Some really outstanding blues bands will be featured at this year’s festival: EG Kight who just returned from a World Tour with BB King, Roger “Hurricane” Wilson, Rollin’ Bones, Frankie’s Blues Mission, and Revenge. Celebrity emcees, Jack Morton and Wanda Rowland, will keep the vibe going and award winning photographer Chris Hefferen from Foundry Digital records will be documenting the event for DVDs. Make sure you come hungry so you can enjoy some of the delicious barbecue that will be available from local food vendors.

Admission is $5 per person. A portion of the proceeds will go to benefit the Humane Society of Blue Ridge. This event is being brought to you by the Blue Ridge Lodging Association in cooperation with the Fannin County Chamber of Commerce and the City of Blue Ridge. Get a preview on Friday night, September 21 with the downtown Blue Ridge Blues Crawl. Blues bands will be playing at the Blue Orleans Bistro, Blue Ridge Brewery, Christy Lee’s Courtyard Grille, The Vine Wine Bar & Bistro, and The Whistle Stop Grill. Have some great food and listen to some great music and get your weekend started off right.

35th Annual Arts in the Park Festival

Visit downtown Blue Ridge, Georgia on October 8 and 9, 2011 for the 35th annual Arts in the Park Festival. With over 175 booths of food, fine arts, and crafts, there will be plenty to peruse. The festival will take place at the Downtown Blue Ridge City Park from 10 AM to 5 PM both days. There will be activities for the children so the whole family can enjoy their time in the park.

2011 Ride the Rails Festival

Railroad CrossingIf you are a train buff, you won’t want to miss the Ride the Rails Festival at the historic train depot in Mineral Bluff, Georgia on September 17 and 18, 2011. There will be plenty of fun to go around. Hourly scenic trips will be made by railroad motor car over the Iron Bridge across the Toccoa River to the Murphy Junction in Georgia then return to the Mineral Bluff Depot or take a Hand Pump car ride. You can see the HO scale model railroad that the Tri State Model Railroaders have in progress inside the depot. This model railroad is based on the old L & N Railroad that ran from Atlanta, Georgia to Etowah, Tennessee with a branch line from Mineral Bluff, Georgia to Murphy, North Carolina. There will be crafts and tasty eats for sale and entertainment by State Line Band. A children’s area will be set up with Trains for Kids.

The 5 mile round trip by railroad motor car will be running hourly from 10 AM to 3 PM on Saturday, September 17, and 10 AM to 2 PM on Sunday, September 18. Tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for children 2 – 12. The Hand Pump Car ride is $1 per person round trip. Donations are always welcome. Blue Ridge Blues and BBQ Festival

Blue Ridge Blues and BBQ FestivalMark your calendars for September 10, 2011 for the downtown Blue Ridge Blues and BBQ Festival. This will be a great day of music, barbecue, a silent auction, and activities for kids at the Downtown Blue Ridge City Park in Blue Ridge, Georgia. The event will begin at 3 PM and will last into the night ending at 11 PM.

This one day festival will feature the following Blues bands:

The Black Top Blues Band from Florida.

Frankie’s Blues Mission from Atlanta.

The King Bees from Boone, N.C. “The King Bees have delighted audiences for years. Queen Bee’s vocals are expressive and strong: Baskerville’s guitar playing is right on, from cool slide to sizzling licks.” -BLUE SUEDE NEWS.

The Rolling Bones Blues Band from Macon, GA.  They are a high energy group with Sherry Paul as lead singer who looks and sounds like Janis Joplin!

The South’s favorite Jazz and Blues Stylist, Miss Francine Reed.  She will be hot off the Lyle Lovett tour and ready to show us her soulful style and the blues like you have never heard.  Reed is one of Atlanta’s most treasured artists and continues to expand her fan base at venues around the world. She continually blesses audiences with her amazing vocals and vibrant personality; she is truly a musical experience that should not be missed.
