Spring Plein Aire Festival

The Blue Ridge Mountain Arts in Blue Ridge, Georgia is having their Spring Plein Aire Festival on April 9 – 10, 2011 from 9 AM to 4 PM. This two day event will offer many opportunities for artists as this is the same weekend as the Blue Ridge Mountain Adventure Race.

This juried art exhibition is open to all artists 18 and older. To participate in the show, your art must be completed in the Blue Ridge area on April 9 and 10, 2011.  Blank canvases will be stamped with an approved insignia on April 9 and only those with stamps will be allowed in the exhibit and sale. All completed paintings must be suitably framed and ready to hang. Paintings are due at the Art Center on April 10 at 3 PM for hanging. Judging will begin at 4 PM. The art will be on display and available for sale at the Art Center from April 10 through April 29. Commissions from the sale of the art will go to benefit The Blue Ridge Mountain Arts Association. 

Awards will be given for the following: Artist Choice (Best in Show) – $100, Art and Adventure – $50, The Voice Magazine – a quarter page ad.

2011 Blue Ridge Mountain Adventure Race

Get your team together and get ready to run, paddle and navigate through the Blue Ridge mountains of North Georgia on April 9, 2011 in the 2011 Blue Ridge Mountain Adventure Race.

Teams of three (plus one support person) will run on trails through the Chattahoochee National Forest, paddle on the Toccoa River and/or Lake Blue Ridge and mountain bike on steep trails completing mystery challenges along the way. The finish line will be the Blue Ridge Park in front of the Art Center in downtown Blue Ridge, Georgia where there will be a post race party, reception and meal for the racers and supporters. Extra tickets can be purchased for family members when you register.

Registration and packet pick up begins at 5 PM on Friday, April 8, 2011 at Fannin County High School. A mandatory pre-race briefing will take place at 7 PM. The race start time will be between 7 AM and 8 AM on Saturday, April 9, 2011.

Knock ’em Dead

See the hilarious, interactive murder mystery Knock ’em Dead at the Blue Ridge Community Theater on April 7 – 10 and April 14 – 17, 2011. The story of this play takes place on the last night of a talent competition and features six very unusual acts: a ventriloquist whose lips move, a foul mouthed stand up comedienne, a baton twirling bimbo, a German songstress with a questionable accent, a flamboyant owner of a lip synching dog, and a hypnotist with a questionable past. A murder happens and all of these people are questioned by detectives and the audience until the case is solved. This play is rated R due to adult subject matter and language.

Showtimes are 7:30 PM on Thursday through Saturday. Matinees on Sunday are at 2 PM. Tickets are $18 for adults, $16.20 for seniors 65 and older, $9 for students college age and younger, and $14.40 each for groups of 10 or more. Season tickets and Flex passes are also available. 2011 Blue Ridge Writers’ Conference

Writer's Pen and PaperBlue Ridge Mountain Arts Association in Blue Ridge, Georgia is hosting the 2011 Blue Ridge Writers’ Conference on April 1 – 2, 2011. A reception will be held Friday, April 1, 2011 from 5 PM to 7 PM and will feature a book fair where many local authors will have their books available for sale. The conference will begin at 8:30 AM on Saturday, April 2, 2011. This year’s keynote speaker will be agent Sally McMillan. Other featured speakers will be Robert Brewer, editor of Writer’s Market and Poet’s Market; Scott Owens, editor of the online journal, Wild Goose Review, and Hope Clark, editor of the website, Funds for Writers.
